Get to know me
Hello, I'm Gemma!
I'm a poet, performance artist, journalist, fine art installationist, facilitator and comedian from Bury in Lancashire.
A proud Romany Gypsy, I was born into a creative family and I'm continuing that tradition with my own family. My husband, Chris', support enables me to create amazing things and my incredibly talented son, Tommy, often joins in with us too.
I have struggled with mental health, autism, physical disability and homelessness in my life, but I channel those experiences into the kinds of artworks that will (hopefully) make you laugh until you cry and cry until you act.
I love having a varied career and so many outlets for my passions. You might find me delivering a messy slime workshop to children, smashing plates covered in poetry about homelessness with a hammer, telling jokes about being sectioned or writing an opinion piece about how I don't look Gypsy enough for some people.
I'm always keen to meet new people, learn new things and take on new challenges!
