Film

I have a BA Joint Honours in Creative Writing & Writing For Stage, Screen & Radio and Level 3 qualifications in Drama & Theatre Studies.

I have written one short film, 'Blackpool Joe', Triple C's 2022 Christmas advert and several stage plays and musicals, in many of which I also facilitated the involvement of young people with complex needs. In 2023, I took my musical, 'Mind Your Business' to BEAM2023 and received a bursary to train with 'Told By An Idiot' as part of London International Mime Festival.

I completed the CRIPtic 'Reach!' programme between 2023-2024 in which I wrote 'Rollercoaster Dai', which was then shortlisted for an Unlimited Award.

Blackpool, Joe

Written by me and made by First Take in 2009, this short is about an elder woman who lives with her beloved monkey, Joe. They share ciggies, chippy teas and life until he is taken away by animal welfare officers. With themes of mental health, grief and a life unfulfilled, it is both heart-warming and heart-breaking in equal measures.

Triple C Christmas Advert

Every year, Triple C, (The Creative Confidence Collective) with 53Two creates an alternative Christmas advert highlighting an aspect of Christmas that affects D/deaf, disabled and/or neurodiverse folks. For 2022, I wrote the advert about an autistic boy who wants to visit Father Christmas but is faced with sensory overload at the grotto, so his Mum and other parents come together to create an autism-friendly grotto.

BEAM2023

'Mind Your Business', a musical comedy set in a carboot sale featuring all of the weird and wonderful real-life people that I met in my former career, is a celebration of the day job, the Northern working-class hub of the carboot sale and of contemporary Romany Gypsy enterprise. It was written as a part of the Graeae Beyond programme which I completed from 2020-2022 and R&D'd with fellow Beyond artists with the support of a Graeae bursary and The Octagon Theatre. After successfully pitching to the BEAM roadshow in 2022, I presented at BEAM2023, performing songs and scenes from the musical. Two of the songs from 'Mind Your Business', are 'That's Kinda Racist' which deals sardonically with the ignorance that all GRT people have dealt with at some point and 'A Bye Bye', which is a cheerful 'screw you' to persistent carboot hagglers.
